SYNTRAN 5900 is a Polystyrene

SYNTRAN 5900 is an emulsion which is designed to modify the visual appearance of personal care products such as liquid shampoos, bath and shower products, and liquid hand soaps, from clear to opaque without affecting the other desired properties. SYNTRAN opacifiers improve brightness and whiteness, can be used at significantly lower levels, and have excellent formulation stability. SYNTRAN 5900 is stable in most acid based formulations.

SYNTRAN 5900 should preferably be added at the end of the manufacturing cycle just after final adjustment. To prevent potential “shock”, the product can be pre-diluted with soft or de-ionized water at a range of 1 part opacifier to 3-4 parts water prior use. The addition of opacifier to the base product needs to be made very slowly under good agitation.

Storage

SYNTRAN 5900 is not freeze-thaw stable and should therefore be kept at temperature of 5° C to 35° C.

SYNTRAN 5900 is very stable in original containers and storage tanks at ambient temperature for at least 6 months. Open containers should be checked on a regular basis for, and protected against, bio-contamination, if necessary.

If SYNTRAN 5900 is stored in a diluted form, a preservative is required.

Safety

We know of no ill effects that could result from using SYNTRAN 5900 for the purpose for which it is intended or from processing it in accordance with current practice. According to the experience we have gained, and other information at our disposal, SYNTRAN 5900 does not exert any harmful effects on health, provided that it is used properly, due attention is given to the precautions necessary for handling chemicals, and the information and advice given in our Safety Data Sheet are observed.
