SyntranŽ PC 5227 Sun Care
Boosts SPF, Improves Feel and Water Resistance
SYNTRAN PC 5227 is Polyacrylate-15 (and) Polyacrylate-17 ![]() The
Syntran PC 5227
is an acrylate grafted olefin polymer designed specifically to increase the efficacy of UV absorbers. The use of
Syntran 5227
should permit formulators of sun protection products to reduce the high cost of active SPF ingredients.
This innovative, multi-functional polymer was developed by grafting an amorphous functional acrylic polymer section onto a crystalline polyethylene backbone. The crystalline portion provides water resistance, elasticity and tactile attributes such as lubricity and feel. The amorphous portion provides film formation, adhesion, substantivity, and formulation flexibility.
In a typical film the crystalline wax tends to migrate to the surface on drying. The amorphous graft polymer portion slows the migration so that the wax is more evenly distributed through the film which results in more uniform distribution of actives throughout the film. Syntran PC 5227 enhances this known effect by providing a combination of cationic and anionic functionality to the polyethylene.
